And now, our first update for the school:

Dear West Wing Parents/Guardians,

I am Linda Price-Barry, principal of the newest DVUSD K-8 School # 25, which is currently under construction in the West Wing area and is scheduled to open in December 2005.

To give you a little background, let me tell you about my educational background. I graduated from Arizona State University West Campus in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Special Education. In 1997, I received my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University where I am currently working to complete my Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership.

I have had a variety of educational experiences which should serve me well as the Principal of the West Wing (K-8) school. Early in my career I worked for the Westside Head Start Program as an Early Childhood Educator, and later as a Bilingual/ESL Special Education teacher. I also served as Early Childhood Director/Assistant Principal at the Tesseract School. I joined the DVUSD District in 1999 and taught for three years in a Cross Categorical self-contained classroom at Village Meadows.

I have served as an Assistant Principal for three DVUSD Schools, Esperanza (K-6), Anthem School (K-8) and Copper Creek (K-6). I am also a wife and mother of two children. My husband David and I have resided with our family in the Deer Valley area for nearly 10 years.

I will be at Terramar School for four days a week for the remainder of the school year, as interim administrator, to prepare for the opening of the new School # 25. I will also continue my duties as Assistant Principal at Copper Creek Elementary School, and will be on that campus one day each week. Please feel free to stop at the front office of Terramar if you have questions, or just to introduce yourself. My days at Copper Creek will fluctuate, but if I am on campus and available when you come by, I’d be happy to meet you.

On Saturday, April 2nd a West Wing (School # 25) Open House will be held at Diamond Canyon School. A bus will leave at 9:00 A.M. from Terramar and travel the route to Diamond Canyon (our temporary school site from August-December). Parents will have an opportunity to meet the new West Wing staff, ask transportation questions, view the temporary site and meet other West Wing parents.

There will be a Kindergarten registration night scheduled for Tuesday, April 5th at Terramar School from 5:30-7:30 P.M. Please see the attached flyer detailing the event.
Just prior to the Kindergarten registration there will be a “Meet the Principal” night from 5:00-5:30 P.M. in the Media Center. I look forward to meeting the parents in the West Wing Community, please stop by for a quick meet and greet.

Enclosed is a naming committee membership interest form. I am asking for volunteers interested in being part of the naming committee for School # 25. Please see the attached form and if you are interested in being part of this committee, please return the form to the Terramar school office by Tuesday, March 29th.

I am looking forward to working together with you to build a strong learning community and a great school. Please continue to check on the district website at www.dvusd.org for updated information regarding School #25 (West Wing).

Professionally,

Linda Price-Barry
Principal School # 25
